What depleted soil and stubborn symptoms have in common

From: Nikki Leary I nikki@rootfornew.com

Hi Reader,

This week I got my compost soil test back — the one I’ll use to start my seeds for the season. It was a good reminder of something farming teaches you pretty quickly:

If the mineral balance in the soil is off, the plants won’t thrive.
They might grow… but they’ll struggle.

We get our minerals from plants. So when the soil is depleted or out of balance, the plants are too. And when they’re off… eventually, so are we.

So here’s the question I keep coming back to:
If the wrong mineral balance keeps my plants from thriving, what do you think it does inside your body?

Low energy. Poor sleep. Hormone chaos. Stubborn weight. Digestive issues.

Not because your body is against you — but because it doesn’t have what it needs, in the right balance, to do its job.

This is why I believe so strongly in testing instead of guessing.

I see so many women layering supplement on top of supplement, chasing symptoms without ever checking what’s actually happening underneath. Over time, this can overload the liver and create new imbalances — even when the intention is good.

More supplements aren’t the answer.
Better information is.

Using one teaspoon of hair, you can check 28 different mineral levels in your body, identify toxic metal exposure, and better understand how your body is handling stress.

I recommend checking your mineral levels about twice a year, then adjusting supplements based on what your body is actually showing — not what’s trending or what someone else swears by.

If you’re ready to stop guessing and support your body with clarity, you can learn more about mineral testing here:

xo,

P.S. To my local Wisconsin friends, on February 10, I’ll be speaking at a Marshfield Christian Women luncheon about the healing power of teas. I’ll be joined by Marilyn Wolkowski from La Crosse, who will be sharing her powerful story, “Strengths in Weakness,” about navigating life with MS and walking through a broken marriage with faith and resilience. If you're in the area, join us for $20 which includes lunch!

2026 Issue #13 Why Potassium Still Matters More Than You Think Hi Reader, When I was running cross country in high school, our coach used to tell us to eat two bananas a day to avoid shin splints. And honestly… at 16 years old, that advice was pretty sound. I loved bananas, so I followed it religiously. And my coach was right — potassium matters. (And ha ha… there are actually a few foods that pack even more of it — like spinach, avocado, potatoes with the skin, and coconut water.) But here’s...

2026 Issue #12 How Toxic Metals Are Stored in Your Body (And How to Detect Them) Hi Reader, Imagine an old friend calls you out of the blue and says they’re in town… and on their way over. If you’re anything like me, you suddenly have about 10 minutes to “clean” your house. 😱 And let’s be honest… that version of cleaning isn’t exactly deep cleaning. It’s more like: 🧺moving the laundry pile from the couch to the back bedroom 📑stacking papers into one “organized” pile 🍽️cramming dirty dishes...

2026 Issue #11 3 Things I’m Doing to Fix My Energy as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner Hi Reader, If you’re anything like me, your to-do list is probably longer than a CVS receipt. I get it. Between work, family, projects, and trying to keep everything running smoothly… being “busy” almost feels like a personality trait. And if I’m being honest, I’ve always been this way. In high school I worked part-time while ensuring straight A's in school. I still managed to spend time with friends,...
