When your energy dips… your minerals are trying to tell you something

Why Potassium Still Matters More Than You Think

Hi Reader,

When I was running cross country in high school, our coach used to tell us to eat two bananas a day to avoid shin splints.

And honestly… at 16 years old, that advice was pretty sound. I loved bananas, so I followed it religiously.

And my coach was right — potassium matters.

(And ha ha… there are actually a few foods that pack even more of it — like spinach, avocado, potatoes with the skin, and coconut water.)

But here’s something I see all the time now in my practice…

Women are doing a lot — juggling life, stress, workouts, family — and their body is quietly running low on the minerals that help them keep up with it all.

So let me ask you this…

Do you ever feel like:
– you hit a wall in the afternoon
– your energy just… drops
– your muscles feel tight or fatigued
– your brain feels a little foggy by the end of the day

Stress, busy schedules, and even hormone shifts in perimenopause can cause your body to burn through potassium faster than you’re replacing it… or make it harder to actually use what you’re taking in.

And potassium isn’t just a “nice to have” mineral.

It plays a big role in how your body functions day-to-day — especially in how it works with other minerals.

For example, I always look at how potassium and sodium are interacting because that helps us understand how your cells are handling stress.

I also look at how potassium and calcium interact since that shows me how well your thyroid is pulling hormone into your cells.

When those relationships are off, it can feel like your body just isn’t responding the way you expect it to.

Not dramatic. Just… off.

A little more tired than you used to be.
A little harder to bounce back.

So what can you actually do with this?

Here are a few simple ways to start supporting your potassium:

✨ Add one potassium-rich food to your day
(think: avocado with lunch, potatoes with dinner, or a handful of spinach in your eggs)

✨ Pair your meals with a little mineral balance
A pinch of quality salt + whole foods goes a long way in supporting that sodium/potassium relationship

✨ Pay attention to your energy patterns
When do you feel your best? When do you dip? Your body is giving you clues

You don’t need to overhaul everything.
Just start noticing… and supporting.

And when you’re ready, you can take it a step further.

Because once you can actually see what your minerals are doing — how potassium is interacting with sodium, calcium, and the rest — it gets a whole lot easier to know what your body actually needs.

If you’re curious what your own mineral patterns look like…

Either way, take this as your little nudge to check in with your body today.

It’s always giving you clues. 💛

2026 Issue #12 How Toxic Metals Are Stored in Your Body (And How to Detect Them) Hi Reader, Imagine an old friend calls you out of the blue and says they’re in town… and on their way over. If you’re anything like me, you suddenly have about 10 minutes to “clean” your house. 😱 And let’s be honest… that version of cleaning isn’t exactly deep cleaning. It’s more like: 🧺moving the laundry pile from the couch to the back bedroom 📑stacking papers into one “organized” pile 🍽️cramming dirty dishes...

2026 Issue #11 3 Things I’m Doing to Fix My Energy as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner Hi Reader, If you’re anything like me, your to-do list is probably longer than a CVS receipt. I get it. Between work, family, projects, and trying to keep everything running smoothly… being “busy” almost feels like a personality trait. And if I’m being honest, I’ve always been this way. In high school I worked part-time while ensuring straight A's in school. I still managed to spend time with friends,...

2026 Issue #10 Afternoon Energy Crash in Perimenopause: Causes and Solutions Hi Reader, I completely ignored something my body was trying to tell me. Even though I’m always telling you not to do that. Sometimes, in between building a business, running a farm, homeschooling, filing taxes, and debating whether or not we truly need another animal… my perimenopause brain forgets to take its own advice. Here’s my confession. Lately, around 5:30pm, I’ve been hitting a wall. Not just “a little...
