Why Your Energy Disappears Before Dinner

Afternoon Energy Crash in Perimenopause: Causes and Solutions

Hi Reader,

I completely ignored something my body was trying to tell me.

Even though I’m always telling you not to do that.

Sometimes, in between building a business, running a farm, homeschooling, filing taxes, and debating whether or not we truly need another animal… my perimenopause brain forgets to take its own advice.

Here’s my confession.

Lately, around 5:30pm, I’ve been hitting a wall.

Not just “a little tired.”

The kind of tired where if dinner hasn’t started yet, I suddenly don’t care what we eat.

Breakfast for dinner? Sure.
Random leftovers? Absolutely.
Everyone fend for themselves? Tempting.

But here’s what made me pause.

As we started inching toward spring, I had a tiny flash of clarity — just a second — where I remembered last summer.

Last summer I was outside in the garden until after 8pm.
Stretching for the last bit of sunlight.
Still thinking. Still moving. Still energized.

So how exactly am I tucking myself into bed at 8pm now?

Something wasn’t adding up.

But you know how these shifts happen gradually?

You adjust.
You normalize it.
You tell yourself, “It’s just winter. My body is resting.”

Until one day you realize…

Wait.

This isn’t my normal.

So I did what I tell my clients to do.

I tested.

I ran a Mineral Test.

And not surprisingly, my adrenals need a little support.

Now let’s talk about what that actually means.

When your stress response has been “on” for too long:

• Cortisol rhythm shifts
• Magnesium and sodium get depleted
• Blood sugar becomes unstable
• You feel wired during the day… and exhausted by evening

That 5:30 crash?

That’s not laziness.
It’s your stress hormones running out of fuel after being pulled from all day.

Your body can only compensate for so long before it starts asking for help.

And here’s the part I’m actually grateful for:

I won’t be stuck here.

Because once you know what’s happening, you can support it.

That’s the difference between guessing and testing.

If you’re:

– crashing in the late afternoon
– waking up tired even after sleep
– needing caffeine just to feel human

It might not be motivation.

It might be your mineral reserves.

Your body talks. Sometimes we just need the right test to hear it clearly.

If you’re ready for answers instead of another cup of coffee…

xo,

2026 Issue #13 Why Potassium Still Matters More Than You Think Hi Reader, When I was running cross country in high school, our coach used to tell us to eat two bananas a day to avoid shin splints. And honestly… at 16 years old, that advice was pretty sound. I loved bananas, so I followed it religiously. And my coach was right — potassium matters. (And ha ha… there are actually a few foods that pack even more of it — like spinach, avocado, potatoes with the skin, and coconut water.) But here’s...

2026 Issue #12 How Toxic Metals Are Stored in Your Body (And How to Detect Them) Hi Reader, Imagine an old friend calls you out of the blue and says they’re in town… and on their way over. If you’re anything like me, you suddenly have about 10 minutes to “clean” your house. 😱 And let’s be honest… that version of cleaning isn’t exactly deep cleaning. It’s more like: 🧺moving the laundry pile from the couch to the back bedroom 📑stacking papers into one “organized” pile 🍽️cramming dirty dishes...

2026 Issue #11 3 Things I’m Doing to Fix My Energy as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner Hi Reader, If you’re anything like me, your to-do list is probably longer than a CVS receipt. I get it. Between work, family, projects, and trying to keep everything running smoothly… being “busy” almost feels like a personality trait. And if I’m being honest, I’ve always been this way. In high school I worked part-time while ensuring straight A's in school. I still managed to spend time with friends,...
