Why do some days feel harder than others?

How to Prepare Your Body for Fall (Instead of Fighting the Change)

Hi Reader,

The other day I had a long list of things to do.

Like always. 😂

But I didn't feel like doing any of it.

Does that ever happen to you?

Usually, I can push through.

You get up. You get moving. You drink the cup of coffee (or two). You do what needs to be done.

But this day felt different.

I wasn't tired exactly.

I just felt...

resistant.

And of course, my first instinct was to fight it.

Come on, Nikki. You have stuff to do.

But while I was struggling with that feeling, I was guided back to a really simple concept:

What if I stopped fighting my energy and started working with it?

That's when I got an idea, what if I paid attention to the rhythm of the moon?

Nature doesn't expect everything to stay the same

The moon moves through a cycle over a 28-day period.

It begins dark with the new moon.

Then, little by little, more light appears.

There's a sense of building.

Growing.

Expanding.

Until eventually we reach that beautiful full moon.

And then?

It doesn't stay full.

The light begins to fade again.

The cycle turns inward until we arrive back at the new moon and begin again.

And it got me thinking...

Why do we expect ourselves to be any different?

We expect to wake up every morning with the same motivation.

The same energy.

The same creativity.

The same ability to GET. STUFF. DONE.

And if we don't?

We assume something is wrong.

Maybe some days aren't meant for pushing.

Maybe some days are for planning.

Some are for creating.

Some are for doing.

And some are for slowing down enough to figure out what we actually need next.

And now nature is about to do the same thing.

Fall officially starts this week.

Look around and you can already see the shift happening.

The days are getting shorter.

The mornings are getting cooler.

The garden is slowing down.

Plants are finishing what they started months ago.

Leaves will begin to fall.

Nature is changing its rhythm.

Maybe we should, too.

I don't mean cancel your responsibilities and spend the next six months under a blanket drinking tea.

Although... 😂

I mean recognizing that we don't have to operate at full speed all year long.

Fall can be a really beautiful time to ask:

What does my body need as I head into winter?

Maybe it's getting outside during the daylight instead of spending the whole day indoors.

Maybe it's protecting your sleep a little more.

Maybe it's trading some of the cold, quick summer foods for warm soups, roasted vegetables, slow-cooked meats and nourishing meals.

Maybe it's adding warming herbs and spices like ginger and cinnamon.

And maybe it's looking at that giant to-do list and deciding that not everything on it deserves your energy.

Fall isn't just about preparing your house and garden for winter.

It's a chance to prepare YOU, too.

Maybe you don't need to push harder.

Maybe you need to change your rhythm.

Because nature certainly does.

And somehow, every spring...

it still manages to bloom again.

xo,

Nikki Leary

2026 Issue #43 She Couldn't Lose Weight. Then We Looked at Her Minerals Hi Reader, “I LOST THE WEIGHT!” That’s how my client started our call this week. She was so excited to tell me how much better she felt! She’d lost the weight she’d been struggling with. She wasn’t nearly as tired. And the best part? She wasn’t even thinking about her weight anymore! Now THAT’S a win in my book! 🎉 But let me back up. Seven months ago, things looked very different. When she first came to me this spring,...

2026 Issue #42 Why Building Strength Matters More Than Losing Weight as We Age Hi Reader, The other day, I learned a pretty painful lesson. I was walking our two Great Pyrenees, which is roughly 250 pounds of dog on the other end of my leash. Everything was going just fine. Until Cato spotted something. And took off. With me still holding the leash. Well...for a little while anyway. 😂 Before I knew what was happening, I was flying through the air like I was auditioning for some kind of...

2026 Issue #41 The Power of Now Hi Reader, Earlier this summer, I walked my husband over to a row of trees in our yard and said, "These trees are all dead." He looked at them, acknowledged the problem, and mentally added it to his never-ending list of farm projects. And that was that. Months went by. The trees were still standing. Until one day... CRASH! One of those dead trees came tumbling down and nearly took out our duck coop in the process. Thankfully, the ducks were fine. But can you...
