Fixing the Root of Seasonal Allergies

From: Nikki Leary I nikki@rootfornew.com

Hi Reader,

We're just a few short weeks away from apple season on the farm—which means one thing: pollen season is here… and so are allergies.

And while I can make all the teas and tinctures to help calm the symptoms (like fixing that annoying post-nasal drip—read more about that here), the truth is this: the root of seasonal allergies usually comes down to one thing—your gut health.

When your gut is inflamed, your immune system overreacts, and suddenly every bit of pollen feels like an attack. The good news? Adding gut-friendly foods like sauerkraut, Kombucha, and Greek yogurt can help bring things back into balance—less inflammation, fewer flare-ups.

Do you make Kombucha?

Not only is it delicious, but the natural carbonation is a perfect way to kick a soda habit.

If you’re already a Kombucha brewer, here’s a little upgrade I’ve been loving:
✨ Mix in brewed Pick Me Up Before You Go-Go Tea (my mood-boosting blend) during the second fermentation. The flavor is amazing, and the gut-healing benefits get an extra boost.

And if you’ve never made kombucha and are wondering what I’m talking about—don’t worry. I’ve got you covered with a super simple step-by-step guide to making your own at home.

If you try it, write me back and let me know - I’d love to hear what you think!

Here’s to happy guts, brighter moods, and breezing through allergy season. 💛

xo,

Nikki Leary

2025 Issue #38 3 Fall Recipes to Try This Week From: Nikki Leary I nikki@rootfornew.com Hi Reader, As expected during every harvest season, this time of year can be busy. I'm typically overbooked and my to-do list is longer at the end of the day than at the beginning of the day. Just the other night I was wrapped up in my latest project when my stomach started growling. I looked at the clock, 5:38pm. I wondered what my hubby was making for dinner, and then I remembered - I was supposed to be...

2025 Issue #37 3 simple ways to clean up what’s in your tap From: Nikki Leary I nikki@rootfornew.com Hi Reader, This past weekend we packed up the farm and headed back to Illinois with boxes of Honeycrisp apples, tomatoes, and squash. 🍎🍅 It was wonderful seeing old neighbors, family, and friends again and delivering orders to them. But when I jumped in the shower, the chlorine smell hit me right away. And when my kids refilled their water bottles, my youngest wrinkled his nose and said, “Mom,...

2025 Issue #36 Why You Really Get a Cold (and How to Get Over It Faster) From: Nikki Leary I nikki@rootfornew.com Hi Reader, Less than three weeks into our big transition to public school, and what happens? The sniffles hit. First, it’s a scratchy throat, then a cough, then the fever rolls in — suddenly you’ve got a full-blown cold. Both of my kids went down almost back-to-back, and of course, they looked at me like, “Mom, fix it.” Now, being both a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and an...
