Just because it’s natural… doesn’t mean it’s safe

Natural Doesn't Mean Safe

Hi Reader,

When I was looking for a bodybuilding coach, I was very clear about one thing:

👉 I was all natural.

That mattered to me because while I love the challenge of competing — and yes, winning a tiara is still on my list — I’m not willing to give up a kidney in the process.

So when I got on a call with a coach and he started asking me about taking hormones... I paused.

“Um… I’m all natural and will not take that. Is that going to be a problem?” 😅

And I’ll never forget what he said back to me:

👉 “Hormones are natural.”

Which is technically true. But here’s the bigger truth:

👉 Natural does not automatically mean safe.

And just a quick mention that HRT, which replaces hormones not being produced in your body is not the same as taking hormones for sport.

This same idea about "natural" came up again this week when I was listening to a webinar from our county’s public health department.

A statement was made by a public health official that stopped me in my tracks:

👉 “It contains natural ingredients, like aluminum. It’s found in the earth.”

Again… technically true.

But it leans into an assumption many people make:

👉 If it’s natural, it must be safe.

And that’s not always how the body works.

Let’s bring this back to something simple.

Have you ever looked at what’s inside a firework?

The compounds used in fireworks — metals and minerals that create those beautiful colors — are also natural elements.

They come from the earth.

They’re “natural.”

But would you inject the contents of a firework into your body?

Of course not.

And I’m not saying that to be dramatic. I’m saying it because it makes the point clearly:

How something is used matters.
How much matters.
Where it goes in the body matters.

Your body is designed to handle a lot.

It processes, filters, stores, and eliminates what you’re exposed to every day.

But certain substances — especially metals — don’t always move through easily.

They can be stored in tissues.

And when something is stored, it can quietly influence how your body functions over time.

Not overnight.
Not always in a way that screams for attention.

But in ways that may affect your energy, your mood, your minerals, and how resilient your body feels.

So my encouragement to you is simple:

👉 Don’t stop at the word “natural.”
👉 Ask a deeper question.
👉 Stay curious about what your body is actually experiencing.

Because you deserve to make decisions from a place of understanding — not just marketing language.

If you want to know what toxic metals your body might be storing, take a mineral test. Click here to learn more.

2026 Issue #20 Why Play Is So Important for Your Nervous System Hi Reader, When I worked in corporate, I was really good at being productive. But if I’m being honest? I was terrible at play. Of course I took my kids to fun things like birthday parties, trampoline parks, fun outdoor parks in the area where they could run around. But most of the time, I was off to the side, being productive. Doing things like, Answering emails. Online shopping for things the family needed Thinking about work....

2026 Issue #19 Your Body Needs to Feel Safe Before It Lets Go Hi Reader, One thing I’ve learned about nutrition over the years… 👉 companies are really good at making things confusing. Because when you’re confused, they can make you think they have the answer, which makes you buy their stuff. And honestly? It makes sense when you start thinking about weight loss. We’ve all been told: 👉 “Just be in a calorie deficit.” Simple. Clean. Easy to sell when you're offering dieters something they...

2026 Issue #18 What actually helps your metabolism (from an NTP) Hi Reader, Early on in my weight loss journey, I was stuck in the yo-yo cycle. I’d eat “perfectly” all week…hit the gym…drink a ridiculous amount of water… and the scale would go down. 🥳 But then the weekend would hit and I’d give myself a little “break”… have some wine… relax a bit… …and by Monday? I had gained it all back. Rinse. Repeat. For the longest time, I blamed: my lack of discipline my body for “working against me” and...
